- Web of Science - The definitive resource for
literature research
With Web of Science, researchers at your institution can find
current and retrospective science, social sciences, and arts and humanities
information from nearly 10,200 of the most prestigious, high impact research
journals in the world. And through Century of Science, they can
also access multidisciplinary scientific content back to 1900. Users can
access this invaluable information quickly and effectively, using powerful
search capabilities such as cited reference searching. They can also combine
chemistry searches with general searches when they search two additional
databases through Web of Science-- Index Chemicus (for new compounds)
and Current Chemical Reactions (for novel reactions).
Web of Science is:
Science Citation Index Expanded to 1900
Social Sciences Citation Index to 1956
Arts & Humanities Citation Index to 1975
Index Chemicus to 1993
Current Chemical Reactions to 1985, plus INPI archives from 1840
to 1985
Available via ISI Web of Knowledge

Discover the benefits of Web of Science
- Current Contents Connect
Unparalleled coverage of current research literature. Updated daily, Current
Contents Connect is the world's premier multidisciplinary current awareness
resource. It provides easy access to complete tables of contents, abstracts,
bibliographic information, and abstracts from the most recently published
issues of the world's leading scholarly journals and books, and also enables
users to access relevant, evaluated Web sites and documents. CC Connect offers
cover-to-cover, expert indexing that provides accurate access to all the valuable
information available in journals - not just articles.
- ISI Proceedings
The fastest way to search proceedings literature. ISI Proceedings
helps researchers access the published literature from the most significant
conferences, symposia, seminars, colloquia, workshops, and conventions worldwide,
so they can track emerging ideas and new research beyond what is covered
in journal literature. Approximately 70% of the information in ISI Proceedings
is not covered in scientific journals, so this rich resource helps users
discover research ideas as they are first presented.
- Derwent Innovations Index
Facilitates rapid, precise patent searching. Derwent Innovations Index
merges the value-added patent information from Derwent World Patents Index with
the patent citation information from Derwent Patent Citation Index.
This resource gives researchers a comprehensive overview of inventions in
the global marketplace in all categories: chemical, electrical, electronic,
and mechanical engineering. Additional descriptive information and coding
enables users to quickly grasp a patent's significance and its relationship
to other patents. Users can conduct powerful patent and citation searches
from their desktop, getting excellent search results without having to be
an expert in patent searching.
Specialized Content

Biological Abstracts
An expansive index to the world's life sciences literature, covering
over 4,000 journals from more than 100 countries. With 9.2 million
records dating back to 1969, over 350,000 records added annually, and
90% of all records including an abstract, Biological Abstracts
articles cover topics from every life sciences discipline. Biological
Abstracts includes enhanced MesH disease terms across records, CAS
registry numbers back to 1969, Sequence Databank Numbers updated and
expanded, and the addition of Major Concepts controlled vocabulary back
to 1969. Updated every two months.
-
BIOSIS Previews
The comprehensive source for life sciences and biomedical research from
journals, meetings, books and patents; indexes data with over 15.6
million records from 1969 to the present. BIOSIS Previews
combines journal content from Biological Abstracts with
supplemental, non-journal coverage from Biological
Abstracts/RRM (Reports, Reviews, and Meetings). Updated weekly,
records are added from nearly 6,000 life sciences journals and
non-journal literature, (patents, books, book chapters, meetings) with
600,000 records added annually. Includes structure indexing, including
taxonomic data and terms, enhanced MeSH disease terms across records,
CAS registry numbers back to 1969, Sequence Databank Numbers, and Major
Concepts controlled vocabulary back to 1969.
-
CAB Abstracts
The most comprehensive source of international research information in
agriculture, environment and all related applied science disciplines,
CAB Abstracts is produced by CABI Publishing. This resource provides
current, in-depth, coverage of global journal articles, academic books,
abstracts, published theses, conference proceedings, bulletins,
monographs and technical reports from over 140 countries in 50
languages. CAB Abstracts contains more than 4.9 million records dating
back to 1973, with more than 200,000 records added each year, and is
updated monthly. CAB Thesaurus, CABICODES and CAB Registry Numbers aid
in specialized searches, and results retrieval and classification.
Now Available: CAB Abstracts Archive - with over 1,860,000 fully
searchable and indexed records back to 1910.
-
FSTA - Food Science & Technology Abstracts
The definitive food and beverage R&D database that provides
thorough coverage of pure and applied research in food science, food
technology, and food-related human nutrition; produced by IFIS
Publishing. FSTA is the largest food science database currently
available, providing concise, comprehensive summaries of food-related
literature found in journals, books, conference proceedings, reports,
theses, patents, standards, and legislation, with international content
from over 90 countries and 40 languages, and over 705,000 records.
FSTA includes value-added abstracts written by specialist scientists
and enhanced information content relevant to food science, as well as
the FSTA Thesaurus, a collection of carefully chosen keywords related
to the fields of food science, food technology, and food-related human
nutrition.
-
Inspec
Inspec is a comprehensive index to literature in physics, electrical/
electronic technology, computing, control engineering, and information
technology, produced by the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
Updated weekly, Inspec has more than 8.7 million records dating back to
1969. More than 350,000 records are added annually from over 3,500
scientific and technical journals, and 2,000 conference proceedings.
Specialized search aids include controlled index terms from the Inspec
Thesaurus, Inspec Classification codes, structured numerical data
indexing, chemical substance controlled indexing, and astronomical
object indexing.
Inspec Archive includes over 70 additional years of backfiles -
873,700 fully searchable and indexed records back to 1898.
-
MEDLINE
The U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) premier bibliographic
database indexes life sciences records from 1950 to the present in
biomedicine and life sciences, bioengineering, public health, clinical
care, and plant and animal science. With over 15 million references to
journal articles in the life sciences from over 4,900 worldwide
publications in 30 languages, this resource covers journals,
newspapers, magazines, and newsletters. More than 571,000 complete
records were added in 2004.
Through ISI Web of Knowledge, users can search MEDLINE with or
without MesH terms, NLM's controlled vocabulary thesaurus; and search
for chemical substances using standard chemical names or CAS registry
numbers. They can also link to NCBI databases for genetic sequencing
information, and from MEDLINE full records to PubMed Related Articles.
Furthermore, ISI Web of Knowledge users can discover the most
recent information by viewing MEDLINE In-Process records, recently
added records that haven't yet been fully indexed.

Essential Science Indicators
Don't just retrieve information … evaluate it! Essential
Science Indicators helps users identify key scientific findings,
measure research performance, and track significant trends in science.
It enables them to conduct systematic, objective analyses of
international scientific literature because it puts all the resources
users need in one place - with comprehensive data,
easy-to-understand statistics, and valuable links to other resources.
-
The Analyze Tool
Results analysis reveals hidden trends and patterns. The Analyze
Tool allows users to refine their searches by grouping results by
author, publication year, institution, language, subject category,
document type or source title, and more. These subsets of information,
displayed in an easy-to-interpret graphic format, allow for easy
identification of hidden trends and patterns within particular areas of
research. Researchers gain insight into emerging fields of science and
the leading researchers in these fields, and can trace the history of
particular fields of study.
